Description

We create this golden ale using Caramlat, Pale Ale and Munich malts with Flaked Barley and Pioneer, Admiral, Cascade and Pilot hops. Gluten derived from the barley is removed during the process.

I understand that not everyone who would like to will be in a position to support in this way, and that’s fine! My content is available to everyone, regardless of their circumstances. We are unfortunately no longer running Brewery Tours but the Brewery Tap & Shop is open Monday-Saturday. See below for opening times. Wadworth has launched 6X Gold - the pub operator and family brewer’s first gluten-free golden beer has been certified by Coeliac UK. Did you know, 6X originally had an ABV of 6% but this was reduced to 4.3% and later to 4.1% in draught, due to the rationing of raw ingredients during WWII. The brewing process is no less laborious, including a 4 week maturing process. Lagering (as this is known) is like laying down a fine wine – it allows the flavours to mature and produces a smoother, more rounded lager. The carbonation in Hawkstone is naturally produced as part of the process yielding bubbles that are smaller with a softer mouth feel. In total, it takes around 6 weeks to create Hawkstone Lager vs. an industry average of only 9 days. With 8% of Brits reporting avoidance of gluten as part of a healthy lifestyle, compared to 5% who report avoidance due to an allergy or intolerance*, 6X Gold aims to attract consumers increasingly looking for gluten-free options. In addition to those choosing a gluten-free diet, Coeliac UK, the national charity for people with coeliac disease, sees 12,000 new members sign-up every year with 1 in 100 people in the UK and Europe having the autoimmune disease. Wadworth operate a Visitor Centre and gift shop at the brewery. Tours of the brewery can be taken and may include a tutored tasting of the Wadworth range and visits to the shire horses and sign-writing shop. [9] See also [ edit ] Liberation also said it intended to invest “substantial capital” into many of the businesses to support future growth. One of my favourite beers is Swordfish. Originally made as a special for the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm centenary and named after a famous aircraft used to deliver torpedoes. This beer is 6X with a mix of Pusser's Navy Rum (a rum rationed to the Navy in WW2) and tastes fantastic. This hand crafted ale is a timeless amber-hued beer distinctively full bodied and eminently drinkable. The nose is malty and fruity with a balancing hoppy note. The delicious malt and fruit character emerge even more intensely on the palate with a long, lingering malty finish.

Only the highest quality malted barley can be used and only after it has passed a series of stringent quality tests. Yet, it is a notoriously delicate crop, extremely susceptible to disease and vulnerable to weather stresses.

Beer Facts

There are so many types of beers we’d love to start brewing and with all this choice we wanted to know what you'd love to see us brew! So in October we asked you for your input and here are the results... Wadworths still use traditional shire horses to deliver their casked ale to local pubs in Devizes. Their radius of the operation is roughly 5 miles (8km); beyond this, motor vehicles are used. The ale can be delivered in metal or wooden barrels. [6]
